Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp has said he is “really excited” about the new season despite talk of a possible loan exit.
On Friday we relayed a report from The Athletic that claimed Skipp could be loaned out depending on what Spurs’ midfield options look like come the end of the transfer window.
Skipp spent last season on loan at Norwich City, with whom he excelled in the Championship, earning promotion to the Premier League.
He is now back at Tottenham and could build a partnership with – or provide backup for – Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in central midfield.
Speaking to the club’s official website about recovering from an injury over the summer, Skipp talked of his excitement for the campaign ahead.
“I loved every minute of it at Colchester, just to get back out there and get that feeling of playing back into my legs, nothing beats playing football,” said the 20-year-old.
“It’s nice after I’d put the hard work in over the summer to get back and play football again. I’m really excited. I was only out for 10, 11 weeks, but it felt like they were the longest weeks of my life! I didn’t even miss that much football, so I can only imagine how it would feel during the season!”
He added: “Now I’ll keep pushing on. I just want to keep pushing, keep training hard… in pre-season that’s almost as important as the games, to get the minutes into the legs and in the games, to implement what we’ve been doing in training. I’ll keep pushing and see where it takes me. That’s what pre-season is all about.”
Spurs aren’t really being linked with any central midfielders, so talk of an exit for Skipp is surprising.
He will be competing with the likes of Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Winks for a spot in the starting line-up.
And he has arguably already shown in his pre-season performances that he is worthy of a place in the team ahead of Winks, who struggled last season.
With that in mind, we think loaning Skipp out would be a very strange decision.

At the age of 20 coming on 21, it is time he settles in as a regular at HIS club especially with his ability, so definitely should not be loaned out.
Nigel, regarding just paying the asking price for Romero, surely you know this is not in Levy’s DNA.A repeat of missing out like with Grealish and Bruno Fernandes could very well be on the cards.
