Atalanta are set to accept Tottenham’s latest offer for Cristian Romero, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Spurs have been linked with a move for Romero in recent weeks, though negotiations have been slow with the Londoners seemingly unwilling to meet Atalanta’s asking price.

However, it now seems there has been a breakthrough in talks and Romero looks set to become the club’s third summer signing after Pierluigi Gollini and Bryan Gil.

Romano, who is always reliable when it comes to transfers, claims Atalanta will accept Tottenham’s latest bid of around €50 million (approximately £43m) for Romero, green-lighting the Argentine’s move to north London.

The journalist also says Barcelona have not entered the race to sign Romero, giving Spurs a free run at their priority centre-back target.

Atalanta are said to be close to signing a replacement for their outgoing player, so there shouldn’t be too many more obstacles and Romero should be a Tottenham player soon.

It’s good to see Spurs replace Toby Alderweireld with a high-quality centre-back in Romero, who was named Serie A defender of the year last season.
