Reported Tottenham transfer target Lautaro Martinez is set to remain at Inter Milan, according to the player’s agent.

Earlier this month, The Times claimed Spurs had agreed a fee with Inter for Martinez, with the plan being to play the Argentine alongside Harry Kane up front.

However, the striker’s agent, Alejandro Camano, has now suggested Martinez is close to agreeing a new contract with Inter, though he admits there has been interest from the Premier League.

“Lautaro wants to stay at Inter, he trusts the project and wants to win,” Camano told FC Inter News (as translated by the London Evening Standard).

“I’ll meet with the Inter board on Wednesday to talk about his contract situation. Premier League clubs wanted him but he’s ready to stay.”

And so it appears Tottenham will have to give up on the hope of partnering Kane with Martinez – but is that such a bad thing?

Spurs showed on Sunday that they can function with a fluid front three of Song Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn.

Of course, they could do with Kane returning to lead the line, or they may even need to buy another striker to replace the England captain if he departs.

In any case, Tottenham already possess a recognised goalscorer in Son, regardless of what happens before the end of the transfer window.

  1. Bang on Tony!

I can see it coming; Kane leaving on 31/8 at 23h30 and Levy complaining that he now has no time to find a replacement.
