Tottenham are admirers of Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter, according to reports in Italy.
Ginter, who can play as a centre-back or a right-back, has just one year left on his current contract with Monchengladbach, where he moved to from Borussia Dortmund four years ago.
And it sounds like 27-year-old could be on the move soon.
Italian outlet Calcio Mercato claims Spurs are among a host of clubs interested in signing Ginter, although it’s not clear whether a January deal is on the cards.
If not, Tottenham could wait until next summer and sign the Germany international on a free transfer.
The problem is that Spurs apparently face competition from the likes of Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
There is a good chance all of those clubs will be able to offer Champions League football next season, while Tottenham are outsiders to qualify for Europe’s elite competition.
That said, Ginter may get a guarantee of more playing time with Spurs than he would at those other clubs.
