Real Madrid are considering a move to re-sign Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon, according to reports in Spain.

Reguilon joined Spurs from Real Madrid in the summer of 2020 after a successful loan spell with Sevilla, where he won the Europa League and emerged as one of the best left-backs in La Liga.

The 24-year-old left the Spanish capital with Gareth Bale to sign for Tottenham last summer. His performances have been mixed but he is very much Nuno Espirito Santo’s first-choice left-back ahead of Ben Davies.

But now it seems Madrid are keen to have him back.

Spanish outlet Defensa Central is claiming that Real are thinking about re-signing Reguilon, but they do not want to pay his €40 million buy-back clause in full – instead they will try to negotiate a reduced fee.

They apparently want Spurs to accept a bid of somewhere between €30-33 million. Whether that will be enough to tempt Daniel Levy remains to be seen.

Our view? Tottenham shouldn’t even consider accepting such an offer unless they have a suitable, high-quality replacement lined up. Reguilon still has plenty of potential to get better, so Spurs should hold on to him for sure.

  1. Depending on what Spurs future tactics are, based on what we play right now, you can have him. Currently he is a liability because our defense are constantly being exposed, we either need 3 centre backs, or 2 CB’s with 2 fullbacks who actually know how to defend and don’t think their only job is to run forwards.
