Wolves are hoping to re-sign Matt Doherty, according to Football Insider.

Doherty left the Midlands outfit to join Tottenham 18 months ago in a £15m deal when Jose Mourinho was manager.

But the Republic of Ireland international struggled to make an impact in his first year, which led to Tottenham signing Emerson Royal last summer.

Royal’s arrival and Japhet Tanganga’s form at the beginning of the season has prevented the 29-year-old from making a single Premier League start this term, although he has come off the bench in three of Antonio Conte’s eight league matches in charge.

Furthermore, Doherty started the Carabao Cup win over West Ham last month, but Football Insider believe that Wolves are keen on bringing him back to Molineux, with the two clubs expected to hold talks over a permanent deal, or a loan with an option to buy.

With Tottenham targeting another right-sided player to provide competition for Royal, this deal would make sense for both parties.
