Bryan Gil said that six months at Tottenham helped him “mature” as a player, although he admitted that he struggled with the physicality of the Premier League.

The 21-year-old joined from Sevilla last summer, with Erik Lamela heading in the opposite direction.

But he failed to make a single start in the Premier League, with the majority of his minutes coming in the Europa Conference League. Gil showed glimpses of his quality, but chipped in with just one assist in his 20 appearances in all competitions.

As a result of Gil’s lack of opportunities under Antonio Conte, he was allowed to leave on loan in January, joining Valencia on loan for the rest of the season.

Gil has enjoyed a bright start back in La Liga and has already played six times, registering an assist in the recent defeat to Barcelona.

And the youngster said that he felt “important” at Valencia from the moment he arrived.

He told AS:”Every player needs to have continuity, to feel important. Here, at Valencia, I feel [important] from the first day.”

“Not playing affects you on a day-to-day basis, obviously, because you are sadder and more downcast. But it is part of football and you have to accept it. In the Premier League, training sessions are very physical, very hard. And that has helped me not to feel fatigued now.

“The adaptation, for me, was difficult. It is very physical football. Back and forth. Being there has been good for me, even if I didn’t play as much as I wanted. I’m more mature.

“I changed habits like eating. I had a chef at home and I gained two kilos. Even so, I noticed that it was not enough for the physical level that exists in the Premier League.”
