The Daily Mail have taken a break from moaning about the BBC to print a story which claims that Rio Ferdinand will join Spurs in the summer.

It must be an easy job to come up with this stuff. Rio Ferdinand is not having the best of form + He used to play for Harry Redknapp = Rio joins Spurs. If only things were so simple.

For a start there is the fact that Ferdinand will have three years left on his contract come the summer and earns £130,000 a week. Are we really going to break the bank to sign a 31 year old? The transfer fee would be colossal for a player of his age and he’d never take the wage cut.

Also, are United going to part with Ferdinand just because his form has been patchy this season? I wouldn’t have thought so, although Ferguson has proved himself a master in the past at getting rid of players at the right time, for the right price.

We shall see, but if you’re looking for a current United player that they might want to flog at the end of the season, who Spurs would be interested in, then I’d wager his surname will be either Carrick or Berbatov.
