On This Day In Spurs History: 18th March

19th March 1921 – Two goals from Bert Bliss (brilliant name) saw Tottenham beat Preston 2-1 in the FA Cup semi final. Spurs would go on to beat Wolves in the final.

19th March 1966 – We’ve had a few 4-4 draws in recent years, but in the psychedelic sixties they thought nothing of a 5-5 scoreline. The following news will have you muttering ‘typical Tottenham’. Early in the second half we held a 5-1 lead, with goals from Gilzean, Greaves, Saul, Brown and Robertson, only to allow Villa to eventually pull it back to 5-5.

19th March 1966 – On the same day as the 5-5 result, future Tottenham winger Andy Sinton was born. Sinton would make 100 appearances for Spurs, scoring 7 goals.

19th March 2008 – Having been 3-1 at home to Chelsea, Tottenham pull it back to 3-3 before Joe Cole puts the visitors ahead again. Robbie Keane sends the Spurs fans back happy with a spectacular late equaliser. Woodgate, Berbatov and Huddlestone are also on target for Tottenham.

Spurs In The News: 18th March

The Mirror reports that Sunderland will pay £6m for Alan Hutton.

They also feature Harry telling us that there is no way Robbie Keane will be allowed to stay on loan at Celtic next season. Pretty obvious really, though he’ll clearly be available for sale.

The Guardian thinks that Roman Pavlyuchenko may still leave Tottenham.
