On This Day In Spurs History: 24th May

1914 – Two months before the outset of the First World War, Spurs made the rather silly decision to tour Germany. On this day in 1914 we drew 1-1 with Stuttgart and this match, along with the others on the tour, was most notable for the fact that our hostile German hosts kicked us all over the park.

So bad was our treatment that our then chairman Charles Roberts declared: “No Spurs team will ever again visit Germany while I am still alive.” He was true to his word and Tottenham didn’t return to Germany until 1950, some seven years after Roberts’ death.

1989 – Today is the 21st birthday of Adel Taarabt. With all this talk of the likes of Joe Cole and Arda Turan coming to Spurs, it seems unlikely that the Moroccan will be part of our first team squad next season and will either be sold or loaned out again. Taarabt has made 16 appearances for Spurs.
