On This Day In Spurs History: 1984

1984 – On this day in 1984 Spurs beat Enfield Town 7-0 in a pre-season friendly. Nothing noteworthy about that, you might think.

You’d be right, except for the fact that playing up front for Spurs was a certain Mario Kempes, the 1978 World Cup winner who was on a two match trial with Tottenham and started this game alongside his Argentina team-mate Ossie Ardiles.

Kempes failed to score for the match and didn’t earn a contract with the club. The goalscorers for Spurs were Garth Crooks (4), Gary Stevens, Garry Brooke and Micky Hazard.
