Sunday saw its usual share of transfer tabloid rumours and for Spurs, outside of the Beckham story, there were many names linked with both the entrance and exit door.

Through all the gossip and works of fiction, some of these may have a grain of truth. Top of the ‘please don’t let this one be true!’ pile had to be a suggestion that Bale would be heading for Liverpool in return for Glen Johnson and Joe Cole.

Although Harry may still be keen on Cole, who somehow thought he’d be better off with last season’s 7th best team as opposed to the ones who finished 4th  and are playing Champions League football, it’s hard to see that one coming off. A stronger possibility from Anfield could be Daniel Agger, but the arrival of Dalglish may well encourage him to stay.

Many fans feel that we need an out and out striker with the burden of scoring falling too much on Bale and Van der Vaart. Romelu Lukaku is a name that’s been linked with most of the Premiership and it seems it’s now our turn.

Lukaku is just 17 but has already played 8 times for the Belgian national team, scoring twice and he averages nearly a goal a game for Anderlecht. He looks a fantastic prospect and with Robbie Keane linked with everyone in 6th place downwards, could be a good fourth striker.

Other striking options that have been mentioned include City rejects Santa Cruz and Adebayor. The latter seems unlikely and it doesn’t seem possible that we would take him to our hearts, but as we’ve seen with Gallas, Harry isn’t averse to bringing ex-Goons to the Lane.

On the way out, Bentley to Birmingham looks to be complete now, but other than that it’s fairly quiet and thankfully the Modric to Chelsea rumour seems to have dropped even quicker than their league position.

Keep watching this space.
