Spurs in surprise swoop for England international

by Matthew Harris on January 11, 2011

The strongest transfer story involving Spurs today links us with a ‘shock’ move for Everton captain Phil Neville. Both The Mail and The Sun carry the story which has been picked up by Football365 and they all are adamant that talks are at an advanced stage.

The ‘younger’ Neville will be 34 by the end of this transfer window. He’s coming up for 500 league appearances and has 59 caps for his country, but his career will forever be defined by giving away a last minute penalty at Euro 2000 that saw England eliminated.

However, if you talk to most Everton fans, they seem to hold him in high regard and knowing Harry as we do, would his arrival really be a shock?

The question with Neville, as it is with all potential new arrivals, has to be whether we are getting a player who is better than what we have. Hutton is the man in possession at right back but Corluka is being heavily linked with a move away so Harry would probably say that he is better. A lot of Spurs fans might tend to differ.

Must have impressed Harry with his performances against Bale. He was excellent on both occasions we’ve played them, but how much would we have to pay to convince Everton to part with him?

To be fair to Phil Neville, his image as a terrible player is mainly due to his performances as a left back.
