The race is on for several of our players to be fit for next week’s Champion’s League clash as well as Saturday’s vital league game at Wigan.

Gareth Bale is very much ‘touch and go’, but news on Aaron Lennon may be more encouraging. After withdrawing from the England squad to face Ghana with a hamstring problem, he trained at Spurs Lodge and is being monitored on a daily basis. However, The Guardian says that the club are ‘cautiously optimistic’ that he will recover in time for Saturday.

Meanwhile, in news that won’t surprise too many people, Jonathan Woodgate has suffered a fresh injury blow with a calf problem that sees him miss the first leg of the Real tie at the very least.

“It’s not good news – a real blow to him and the club,” Harry Redknapp told the press.

“He had been training well recently and I was hoping to feature him against Real next week.

“He’ll still travel with us as part of the squad. Real is his old club and this match means so much to him.”

Woodgate is battling to earn a new contract, but many feel the end of his career is now firmly in sight.
