Tottenham supporters have voted for Luka Modric as their player of the season after some consistent performances throughout 2010-11 and while it’s hard to argue with that outcome, who else could stake a claim for that prize?

Throughout this week we’ll look at some of Spurs’ best players of this campaign and look at their credentials to challenge Luka. For today, here are some of the better performers from our defence.

Michael Dawson

Captain for much of the season due to the continued absence of Ledley King, Michael suffered a bad injury of his own while away on England duty. He returned to claim the armband and consistent performances have lead many to suggest that Harry should make him our permanent club captain for next season.

William Gallas

Signed as a free agent at the start of the campaign, he immediately stepped in and probably played more games than most would have expected. A fierce competitor, he quickly became a fans favourite and turned in solid performances week in – week out.

BAE

While he may not be the choice of many, BAE had enjoyed a consistent season overall before succumbing to injury towards the end. Apart from a couple of notable bad games, he was probably the first name on Harry’s teamsheet.

We’ll look at other contenders through the rest of the week, but for now, could any of these three have mounted a credible challenge as our player of the year?

  1. BAE for me, best left back in the league this season, think only Cole is ahead of him based on performances over the last two seasons.

Dawson is far to easily turned and has a serious lack of pace!

Gallas, been awesome, but its BAE all the way

  2. Hard decision really out of Gallas and Ekotto, Dawson is often bailed out by his other centre back, Daws is great in the air though………I really want to give it to Ekotto because I think he is amazing but it has to be Gallas purely because in the big games he gave massive performances.

  3. Its crazy isnt it Jay?.. giving runner up erformer of the to the ex arsenal man!.. who would have thought it?.. but.. he has shown his professional is and class all year.. not to mention his willingness to play when injured. i have to take my hat off to willy. fair play to him
