Steven Caulker is a man in demand at the moment with Premiership new boys Swansea City the latest to make an enquiry about the young defender. While Bristol City were keen to take him back for next season, it is widely felt that the player is ready to take the step up to Premiership football.

The defender impressed during his time with the Robins last season, prompting David James to call him one of the best players at the club. City haven’t given up on him but it seems that Brendan Rodgers side are in pole position.

Swansea have accepted that Spurs aren’t prepared to let Caulker go permanently but a season long loan could well be on the cards. It looks like the Welsh side’s defence could have a busy time of it next season so is this a move that suits everybody?

  1. Yes. I don’t think he would see anything close to regular minutes with our squad. Send him to Swansea and let him get a season of experience in the Premier League. If he impresses, bring him into our squad for the next season. I think we have a couple of other young guys that are ready to step in with us (Rose and Walker for sure), add in Caulker the next season and the future for the defense is bright.

  2. Bristol City fan here. Good luck to the lad, gave us a great season at Ashton Gate – the boy is destined for great things. The best young defender i’ve seen for some time.

Rumours in Bristol are suggesting that Spurs and Everton are in for Nicky Maynard – the boy is brilliant and would love him to stay but with only a year left on the contract, it looks likely he’ll move onto a bigger club this summer. I’ve been hearing that spurs will offer Khumalo and Parrett on season long loan deals as part of the deal – I have to confess I know nothing about them. Can anyone enlighten me?

  3. Yes, Yes, Yes. Sign Maynard. He is still young and is by far the best striker in the Championship. Won’t cost us much, and having seen him play numerous times, i’m sure he will score lots in the Prem. Low risk, potentially very high gain.

For any doubters, check out his goals. I remember a particularly great one against QPR 2 seasons back.

  4. I heard this Maynard rumour too – seems to be doing the rounds. Haven’t seen him too much, so not sure – think we should be aiming for more proven strikers really. Although the rumours I heard were that Everton had already made an offer, with Spurs, Newcastle and Norwich just interested.
