The club has announced that Brazilian midfielder Sandro has signed a new 5 year contract up until 2016. The news comes on the back of several rumours of a move to Serie A after the player reported some summer interest from Roma.

“Roma were not the only side interested in me, there were others too. The problem was that no offer arrived,” Sandro said.

“Nevertheless, I’m happy that a big club like Roma were keen, especially as they play in an important championship. I’d certainly like to play in Italy at some point in the future. It would be another forward step in my career.”

Most of these stories picked up on this with a suggestion that the player was on his way out of the club while at the same time they failed to miss his later comments,

“I’m convinced we’ll have a good season at Tottenham. It’s a great club, with great players. I believe we can finish in the top three or four this term.”

There is no news yet of an expected return date from Sandro’s knee injury, but our find from last season has been sorely missed in the opening exchanges at White Hart Lane.
