Our team to face Wigan – What’s yours?

by Matthew Harris on September 23, 2011

There are some fresh injury worries for Spurs ahead of tomorrow’s game with Wigan at the JJB with news that Niko Kranjcar has been ruled out while left back Benoit Assou-Ekotto is a doubt with illness.

According to the club website, William Gallas is available ‘soon’ so if he misses out tomorrow, King and Kaboul should continue their centre half pairing in front of Brad Friedel.

Kyle Walker may well continue at right back but if BAE does miss out, Danny Rose is also injured so the only option seems to be dropping Bale to left back with Luka Modric moving to the left as he did towards the end of last season.

Both Sandro and VDV are available and if Bale is moved out of the midfield, those two could slot in alongside Luka and Scott Parker. Up front it seems almost certain that Defoe and Adebayor will continue their partnership which has yielded five goals in two Premiership games to date.

Livermore and Dos Santos will be hoping that Harry may find a place in the starting XI for them but a slot on the bench seems more likely. In the meantime, Roman Pavlyuchenko has been ruled out with a hamstring injury and that could see Harry Kane taking his place amongst the subs.

Here’s our team to face Wigan – what’s yours?

Drop VDV for Sandro and let Modric push forward more. Parker and Sandro would be the best ball winning midfield we have had for decades which will be useful especially away from home, even against sides like Wigan.

I like that team if Benny is ruled out. Livermore could come on for Rafa or Luka to close out the game for the final 15 mins (Parker, Sandro and Livermore sat in front of Ledley and Kaboul will be impenetrable), assuming we’re winning!

Van-da-Man and Luka cutting into the middle of the pitch, two maurading fullback creating the width with two strong, determined, go-getting defensive midfielders providing cover. Defoe and Adebayor to add to their goal talley.. 3-0 Spurs VDV 28′ Defoe 45′ Adebayor 67′, Doc Brown personally told me this score.

Roman Pavlyuchenko has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Oh dear that sounds like a severe politcal injury that could see him out until January!

No point rushing sandro & vdv after playing midweek so 20 min sub appearance + 45 mins in uefa should have them ready for d arse, if benny misses out move walker lb he’s played a full season there at shef utd when naughton was rb, a start for gio on right wing would be good for his morale & shore up lack of pace with corluka at rb.
Starting line-up friedel corluka kaboul king walker gio parker modric bale Ade defoe

I think that with a fully healthy team Sandro has to start. Everyone seems to forgetting how good he was at the end of last season. Harry needs to find a formation that fits in Parker, Modric, and Sandro.
I think Defoe is still overhyped. He is looking better. However, when we are passing the ball around his first touch comes and goes. He needed someone to fall down to score against Wolves and did not score against Liverpool until they were down to 9 men. I would like to see VDV get a chance next to Adebayor.
Friedel
Walker——-Kaboul——–King——–BAE
Sandro—-Modric—-Parker
VDV—-Ade—–Bale
If we are needing a goal bring in Defoe around 60 minutes to give him some time. Is it me or does Harry almost never make a substitution in the early second half? He will sometimes make a change at halftime or it will be at least the 70th minute or later.

…a team that would be “tighter than a camel’s arse in a sandstorm” and still have a few goals in it, i recon.

If BAE is out, Bale back to lb, with Townsend coming in, or possibly Townsend at lb, Harry has already used him in that position this season. VdV to replace Kranjcar, no other changes.
