Whoever Spurs aim to buy in January it won’t be Giuseppe Rossi after the Italian was ruled out for the next six months with a cruciate injury that he sustained in Villarreal’s 3-0 to Real Madrid in the week.

Harry Redknapp has admitted interest on several occasions in the past but this setback has ruled out any potential move for the striker this winter.

Rossi’s club website stated: “Worst fears have been confirmed. Villarreal’s Italy striker Giuseppe Rossi seriously injured in his right knee in the match against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu and is out for six months.”

If there is any lingering Spurs interest therefore, the club will need to wait until next summer at least before attempting the land their man.
