A rather underwhelming transfer link has emerged today in the shape of Portuguese midfielder Manuel Fernandes who is currently playing his football in Turkey. If you believe the Turkish press, Spurs and Besiktas have already shaken hands on a deal worth 17 million Euros.

Remember Fernandes from spells at Everton and Portmouth? – No, well nor does anyone else really and although he has played for his country, this looks an unremarkable signing and most Tottenham fans will be hoping that the reports aren’t true.

The 26 year old’s career started at Benfica and he has also played in Spain for Valencia. However, he has already had four loan spells in his career which is usually a good yardstick for measuring a player of his age.

This view is obviously a little personal but when the likes of Eden Hazard are strongly linked to the club, other rumours can often fail to excite. Those Turkish reports remain however but is there any truth in them?

  1. you’d have to have a rather lackluster footballing knowledge not to remember him…
