The transfer saga of Jan Vertonghen has become unnecessarily long and reports that claimed the player was about to return to training with Ajax suggested that the deal might be off.

The problem was over a payment clause in the Belgian’s contract but Ajax manager Frank de Boer still expects his player to leave.

We’re very close but if the deal isn’t done, Jan must start his training next week with us,” De Boer said.

“Eventually, I expect the deal will be done. I expect everything will be alright.”

With the new deal for Gareth Bale and the departures of Corluka and Kranjcar, things are starting to move at the club and the sealing of the Vertonghen move would surely be another step in the right direction.

  1. This De Boer interview was yesterday and was widely reported yesterday. If you have no news why don’t you close down the site. Your wasting my time opening it.

  2. More rehashed rubbish, stolen from other sites and reworded. Out of date news from an out of date site. Has anything original ever appeared here?

    • Don’t mind if it’s rehashed news with a bit of opinion to be honest. Like the format and ease of commenting.

Where else in the squad needs to be strengthened now..?

      GK – Butland, Vorm, Lloris?
LCB – Inigo Martinez (if not just to give Vertonghen rest and competition)?
      LB – Buttner, Pieters?
CM – Clasie, Moutinho, Sahin, Allen?
      RW – Dzagoev, Hoilett, Yarmolenko?
ST – Remy, Damiao, De Jong, Yilmaz, Castaignos, Higuain?

Any other ideas on who can fill these voids? If we do get AVB then I guess they’ll be some bias on getting Portuguese players in.

      • Tbh – If Vertongen signs and Caulker is staying with us, Kaboul and Dawson are fit, with the possibility of King coming through his injury and signing on for another year, I dont think we really need another CB.. We could even probably offload Bassong anyway.

Up front, I would go for Messi and Ronaldo…

      • Butland, Vertonghen, Pereira’s, Sahin/Allan, Sigurdsson, Remy, Damiao and De Jong…….. if we get AVB in as manager we will play a 4-3-3 probably

        —————Brad—————-
        Walker–Kaboul–Vert—Pereira’s
        —Sigy/VDV–Sandro–Sahin–
        —Remy—– ——Bale—
        —————Dimiao————-

i would be The happiest man Alive if this was are line up next season!!

        • BAE only needs replacing if he is sold. We should keep Naughton as cover for both fullbacks and could use another understudy –Ezekiel Fryers would be my pick — but we should spend money where we don’t need it.

Your midfield looks good — plus we have Gio, Hudd, and Livermore for cover.

Lennon is good enough that he doesn’t need to be replaced — but competition would be good, and we definitely need backup for both wings and forwards — Would Remy be fine not being an official starter but as second choice for all three attacking roles? I’d still want someone like Castaignos as cover.

Last, no new Friedel replacement — or at least understudy? Vorm, please.

        • Yes lets replace half the team that finished 4th/5th/4th and bring in a Chelsea failure to manage them.
We can make a profit and finish mid table.
          Yay!!

    • That’s about as good as I could wish for.
Actually, to be greedy, add Castaignos and Hoillet as two (relatively) cheaper players to add quality and depth.

      Perfect.

  3. The players who will be signed: Vertongen, Butland or Vorm, Moutinho (Sahin wants to stay don’t know why), Siggurdsson, Damiao and/or Yilmaz.

  4. I expect this deal to be done. Yet, its taking annoyingly long, and we need these kinds of signings to help facilitate other moves in the club. This signing will go a long way to making our business run smoothly in time before the season starts.
