With the arrival of Hugo Lloris at White Hart Lane, there will be even less opportunity for Carlo Cudicini and Heurelho Gomes to pull on the gloves in anger for Spurs this season. Both players were given limited opportunities in the Carling Cup and Europa League matches last campaign but it would surely make sense for AVB to give Hugo the nod in these games if he decides to rest Brad Friedel.

At this stage in Carlo’s career, it may not be such an issue but for Gomes there is surely the need to move on. Like some of the other fringe members of the squad however, the issue looks as if it’s being deferred for the time being.

“Gomes has been extremely unlucky. He has picked up different types of injuries and is making a steady return,” Said AVB.

“We have discussed with Gomes the possibility of him leaving on loan but because of the injuries we lost the timing of doing it.

“We also didn’t have an option a player of his dimension deserves. We have put it hold and will reassess it in January.”

Gomes was one of the players claiming he had a clean sheet when Villas-Boas arrived but as third choice at best, this is surely the time for the Brazilian to move on permanently.

  1. GOMES MUST BE SOLD COME JANUARY CUDCINI CAN ALSO MOVE ON A FREE MOVE A JUNIOR UP TO THE SENIOR SQUAD LLORIS MUST BE GIVEN SOME TIME TO KEEP HIM HAPPY WHILE WE WAIT ON FREIDEL COMING TO THE END OF A MAGICAL ERA EASY PISY COYS ! ! !

  2. Brad, Hugo and Carlo should remain, but Heurelho should be loaned until option to sell comes up. We need two main keepers for the Premier League and Europa League, plus a third to cover injuries or even possibly the domestic cups.
This problem between who should be the starter could have been resolved if we’d gone for Butland instead. However, I think it’s a brilliant headache for AVB, to get to choose from two superb keepers.

  3. Hopefully, Gomes’ time in the shadows wont inhibit his move away, because I genuinely think he can do a job elsewhere if he manages to vanquish the calamity from his game. But unfortunately, his reputation and subsequent fall from grace at Spurs will probably rule out a move in England.
