A draw against Maribor in Slovenia tonight would be Tottenham’s third in a row and it would leave us with just three points at the half way stage in this Europa League group. At the start of the campaign, many of us might have taken the 0-0 result with Lazio but the following matches against Panathinaikos and Maribor are games that we may have been expected to win.

Spurs head coach Andre Villas-Boas would certainly be happy with another point this evening.

“I think these two games with Maribor are going to be the decisive point of the group phase,” AVB said.

“A point will not be a bad result as it will keep us tight with Maribor. Lazio can escape if they beat Panathinaikos.

“But our two games with Maribor will be decisive. After those we will see where we stand, before we have a home game with Panathinaikos and a difficult trip to Lazio.”

A win for Lazio tonight would probably put them out of the equation and then, it would simply be a case of two home wins against Maribor and Panathinaikos and we’re through – assuming of course that you’re of the opinion that the Europa League really matters.
