Spurs have been faced with injury concerns all week over the England trio of Aaron Lennon, Kyle Walker and Jermain Defoe. All three have been suffering with hamstring problems and as Andre Villas-Boas faced the press, the position was no clearer.
Earlier in the week it had been hoped that Moussa Dembele may just return for the North London derby on Saturday but this was one area where AVB was able to give some definite news – and it wasn’t good.
“Dembele will not be back for this game,” Andre said.” There is a 50 per cent chance he will be ready to play Lazio on Thursday. At the moment surgery is out of the question – hopefully.”
As for the remaining three, AVB wasn’t certain,
“They haven’t trained with the team yet,” he added. “They trained separately on Wednesday in a recovery session away from the team.
“We have to see how they return, see if there is any disturbance. Lennon had a scan on Wednesday and it’s fine on his hamstring. We have to wait and see. They have had quite enough time to rest and recover.”
It all suggests that Walker, Lennon and Defoe will all be available but for those who believe Dembele’s absence is being keenly felt, the news will be a major blow.
I’m the most optimistic Spurs fan out there, however…
In the words of Private Fraser from Dads Army.
‘We’re doomed, I say. Doomed’!!
With our midfield filled with slow ponies and the ever missing Dempsey wandering around near their defensive line AVB is putting more pressure on himself after contributing to articles such as:

We are in for another disaster if Huddlestone plays. Arsenal move the ball around quicker than City do so the Hudd is going to look even more like a statue. Hudd vs Wilshere is a complete mismatch. The way we play now is like a cross between George Graham and Ossie Ardiles, boring and conceding too many goals!!!
Paul, would you play both Ade and Defoe? and how about Carrol as the central attacking midfielder?

COYS Pre-derby debate: what does everyone think?
1 – How about Sandro as the defensive midfielder with Carrol as the central attacking midfielder?.
2 – Surely we cant start Dempsey? God help us if he is in the starting lineup, so, how about Ade and Defoe both starting or is this too attacking minded?
3 – How about starting with Lloris in goal?
If we start Hud and Dempsey we have little or no attacking threat from the middle which will mean that all of the foward play will revolve around long balls to the wingers and up to the single front man (Ade).
Due to some very defeatist tactics against Wigan and Man City by sticking with Dempsey and Hud my faith in AVB is already hanging by a thread. Surely he must see that Spurs fans demand decent movement, flair and attacking play which he will not get through playing either of these two slow ponies. AVB – this is critical against the Arse this weekend.
Either you understand the voice and passion for football at Spurs or you don’t. If Dempsey and Hud both start and if we end up losing this game this will be the final straw which broke the camels back.
