It had seemed fairly unlikely that our new midfield signing from Schalke 04 would be linking up with the squad this month but Spurs head coach Andre Villas-Boas has now confirmed that Lewis Holtby will be joining the club in the summer – as originally planned.

The German side had intimated that Holtby could leave now if all parties agreed but AVB has moved to clarify the situation.

“When you reach an agreement with a player that is a free transfer in the summer, there is always that possibility, but it is not something we are looking to do,” Andre said.

The move looks to make sense with a packed White Hart Lane midfield. Earlier this week, Holtby was asked if he would struggle to get into the team, to which he replied,

‘I am not Marko Marin, I am Lewis Harry Holtby. I know what I am capable of, and I am thinking very positively about what I can do for Tottenham.” – A statement which prompted the Mail to lead with ‘Don’t treat me like Lloris’.

That overreaction aside, the delay is probably a good move all round but it may well lead to some prominent departures this summer with Dempsey and Sigurdsson among the names mentioned.

  1. I Hope Clint and Siggy will not be moved on. I think Siggy has the potential to drop that bit deeper into midfield for us. He has a great range of passing and puts a shift in closing down whilst not being too shabby from long range. Clint scores goals and I beleive will have atleast 2-3 more seasons doing so.
If I had to pick departures, Huddlestone would be out. Having Siggy as back up for the deeper roles Dembele plays in my opinion would be far better.
