Tottenham are widely tipped to dip into the transfer market and make an offer for Celtic’s highly rated striker Gary Hooper this month. The forward was at Spurs as a youth player but since leaving the club at the age of 14, his career has taken a long and varied route.

Hooper was at Grays before making his way into league football but after a slow start to his professional career, he started to average a goal a game at Scunthorpe. He moved on to Celtic in 2010 and at present, Hooper has an impressive 71 goals in 116 games.

Of course, not everyone can make the transition from the SPL to the Premiership successfully but for every ten Ally McCoists, there may just be a Nikica Jelavic or even a Steve Archibald.

With a reported fee of £10m, reports suggest that Hooper may even be AVB’s number one man but is he worth what must be seen as a gamble?

  1. honest to god its time spurs got a takeover and sack levy this is a complete joke there is no way gary hooper is good enough for spurs – why bring in a striker that is not as good as the one we already have – we will never move forward buying average players – hooper is not good engough for a top 4 premier league team no fucking way – levy done this last january aswell not getting a top striker and bringing in saha now hooper, we wont get in the top 4 again getting useless players – levy and avb are idiots if they go ahead with this – we need quality negredo damiao – if we cant get them so be it – does not mean we have to panic buy a shit striker form the spl – i mean goodwille was a top striker in the spl and he was shit with blackburn –

    • Spot on, those 2 and we win almost every game its as simple as that. Levy must be thick if he cant see this, the outlay for those players will be recouped very quickly.

  2. Damaio? Negredo? Willian? Get real. We cant afford those players. Adebayor has completely hogged the wages budget. We cant afford to sign players on 90k or 100k.
Gary Hopper is a decent player and he’s realistic. Spurs have satrted the process of funding a stadium. Thats going to cost 500m. Shrewd buying of players with potential is the only thing we can afford to do. Get bloody real.

    • your wrong hpper is shit chelsea arsenal man utd would never buy a guy like hooper he is not good enough for a top 4 team – and spurs cant be that broke we bid 22 million for moutinho in the summer – negredo would not cost that much seville need to sell – would get him for around 15 million – and he is a top striker – hooper would cost around 8 million and thats a waste of money – there isa reason he never got a cap – if he goes to spurs he will end up on the bench and sold on when they realise he is useless

      • Spurs just made a loss of 4.3m. Where oh where is all this money going to come from? Merchandising was down for first time in a long time. You people think ENIC shit money. We’ve made money in transfer fees over the last 5 years, one of the few clubs to do so. We simply dont have the dosh.

  3. Hooper does not have the qualities needed for SPURS.
Yes, we have to buy semi-cheap players.
But we could get Negredo for around 15m. That makes sense, even on our budget. Add Willian for 18m and put them on around 70k a week.
That should be possible. And we would finish 4. as a minimum.
We need CL to keep Bale and atract the really exiting players.
