The January transfer window has been shut for several days but the newspapers have column inches to fill and it’s never too early to start rumours over some summer deals. Spurs aren’t exempt from the reports but the first suggestion of spring seems like a very unlikely one.

Spurs have admittedly lost two goalkeepers this year – albeit Heurelho Gomes is only on loan in Germany – and it may seem logical to look at regular back up to Hugo Lloris and Brad Friedel. An approach for a new stopper may be logical therefore but the name currently being mentioned is Osasuna’s first choice, Andres Fernandez.

Fernandez is 26 and has only just made his breakthrough as first choice keeper at the club after a long time as understudy to the veteran Ricardo. Osasuna are having a bad season in La Liga and are just hovering outside of the relegation places but their stopper’s performances are attracting a lot of attention.

However, after waiting so long for his chance, it seems unlikely to say the least that Fernandez would give that up to warm the bench at the Lane. Even if Brad is eased away, it’s implausible that Lloris will be challenged so this rumour can probably be filed as an early non-starter.
