Spurs made a much publicised bid to take Joao Moutinho away from Portugal in August but time ran out on the deal in the final minutes of the summer transfer window. The club were widely expected to come back in for the midfielder in January but instead sealed the signature of Lewis Holtby as their only major signing.

That seemed to end the link but reports arising from Portugal today claim that the player has been promised a move away from the club when the window opens once again in June. Moutinho has been in Portugal for the whole of his senior career but at the age of 26 is being tipped for a transfer abroad as the next test.

Naturally, Spurs and in particular Andre Villas-Boas will be linked with his former player but will the club be back in for Joao Moutinho and do we really need him?

  1. Not sure I see the need, but you have to back AVB’s judgement as he knows the player and what he wants. As long as this isn’t instead of a striker I’m ok with it.

  2. Couldn’t agree more with Martin Sewell’s comment! Think we’re all sick of screaming out for a top class striker to bury a few of the regular chances we get in every game.
Can only hope that something has been brewing for some time and we’ll see what we’ve been waiting for in the Summer… Maybe even Damio.
