Stories linking Spurs with a central defender may well be wide of the mark but after the issues at left back throughout this season, the club may well be moving to fill a position that BAE has made his own for a number of years.

When Benny was injured, the lack of cover here was exposed and when the player did return, he was some way short of his best form. Now, the rumours of a replacement are gathering momentum and there are two distinct names in the frame.

The first of these is Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao who has been linked to the club in a deal of around £15 million. Coentrao is a Portuguese international who has been with Real since 2011 and while he has only made 34 league appearances in that time, Jose Mourinho has used the player far more often this season and he now seems a reliable regular at the Bernabeu.

Perhaps a more likely candidate is Alvaro Pereira – a 27 year old Uruguayan international currently with Inter Milan. Pereira features on a less regular basis in the Inter side and the press in Italy seem fairly confident that he will be available in the summer.

However, in both cases there are two obvious links – Pereira played for AVB at Porto while any player at Real can easily be linked with the suggestion that Gareth Bale will be moving the other way.

How much truth there is in either story is debatable but it is starting to look increasingly likely that BAE may be running down his last season at White Hart Lane.

  1. Get Rose back and give the position to him. Has proved he’s capable since being at Sunderland, he’s one of ours, english, and should never have been sent out on loan in the first place.

  2. Danny Rose Simples…

Remember him of Amazing Arsenal Goal fame?

our supporters don’t even know what we have in stock, it’s waste of money going looking for a Carlos when we’ve bred our own bad boy!!

    • And Rose has said he won’t return to sit on the bench, besides which he is not a top 4 player, just a mid table one.

Fryers is the back up next season, that’s why we bought him and there are many more than 2 names in the frame, if you had bothered to research your article.

  3. I agree that Danny Rose has come on leaps and bounds since playing regularly. I think sending him out on loan to another EPL side was the BEST thing that could have happened to him, although, by the looks of it, he could have got a run in the Spurs team the way things have gone.

That being said, regular/guaranteed first-team football has given Danny the confidence to relax and express himself.

Since moving to the North East, Rose has become arguably Sunderland’ best/most consistent player and if he can produced the kind of form he has shown this season, in a Spurs shirt, then we have a very good prospect on our hands for next season.

I would say though, the opportunity to sign a Coentrao ,in particular, may prove too tempting to resist.
Just like most things there are levels, and the idea that Fabio is on a COMPLETELY different level to Danny is hard to argue with.

  4. If we qualify for CL my first choice would b Alex Sandro of porto, 2nd choice Coentrao. If we don’t finish top 4 I’d look at luca Antonelli of genoe pace to burn & Italy international. I still think rose can b a bit indecisive,he done well yesterday but I watched him against Liverpool a while back & he wasn’t good at all, he still falls into that not quiet ready for a top side yet.

  5. ROSE IS TOTAL RUBBISH HAVE YOU GUYS NO IDEA WHAT YOUR ASKING TO BRING THIS OAF BACK TO WHL , TRY FOR BAINES OF EVERTON A PROVEN EPL PLAYER AND A PROVEN INTERNATIONAL PLAYER .
