Gareth Bale achieved the recognition from his peers that we all felt he deserved last night when he scooped the double at the PFA player of the year awards. Gareth claimed the Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year titles and along with Jan Vertonghen, he also made the team of the Year from the Premiership.

After the event, Bale tweeted that he was honoured to receive such recognition,

‘I’m very proud to have won two PFA awards and make the team of the year,’ he said on his official Twitter account.

‘When it’s your fellow pros who vote for the awards, it makes them feel that extra bit more special. Thanks for all the kind tweets!’

Winning those awards may well have led to more speculation about a possible move to Spain but the reports this morning quote Bale as focussing on Spurs.

“I just take no notice, it’s all speculation, I can’t do anything about it,” he said.

“I just concentrate on my football and play as well as I can and do my best for the team.”

Having won the award two seasons ago, some felt that Gareth would be overlooked this time but there’s no doubt that this has been an even better campaign and we hope it’s one that will end on another high.
