With just over three hours to go until kick off, the importance of today’s home game with Southampton is starting to be felt by supporters and of our remaining four fixtures, this looks to be the easiest on paper.

With an away game at Chelsea in midweek, you feel that Spurs really must win this match, along with games against Stoke and, on the last day of the season, at home to Sunderland. Knowing how we can so easily drop points at this stage, it’s a nervous time and the importance of the match is also felt by the players, as Hugo Lloris acknowledged.

“We want to be in the next Champions League but we know that if we don’t get three points against Southampton our chance will be finished,” Lloris told Sky Sports News.

That may be a bleak assessment and if Chelsea were to lose their next two games against Manchester United and then ourselves, we would be right back in it but this clearly is a vital clash and one that will be tough against a side that have impressed on their return to the Premier League.
