According to some reports, Clint Dempsey has a clause written into his new Seattle Sounders contract which will allow him to play on loan at a Premiership club during the MLS off season. For those in the anti Deuce camps, this could raise the spectre of Clint wearing a Lilywhite shirt once again but would this be such a bad thing?

The story seems to have originated in the Metro and it goes on to claim that Spurs could be interested in taking back the 30 year old, although they may face some opposition from Everton who were thought to be showing interest in the player before he left for the States.

A temporary loan from the MLS is nothing new – it was good enough for David Beckham and even our own Robbie Keane scored three goals in six league games for Aston Villa in 2012. At the same time, Thierry Henry only found the net once in four matches across North London but sadly his late, late winner against Sunderland was crucial in the race for fourth.

So it’s been worth a punt for those clubs but is it tempting to take Clint Dempsey back when the transfer window reopens in January 2014?

  1. I wouldn’t say I hated Dempsey – scored some big goals for us (united home & away), I actually always appreciated the fact that whilst not being the most ‘technically gifted’ (man I hate that phrase) player, he always gave 100% for the shirt.
Personally, I wish him all the best, but wouldn’t expect to see him back anytime soon.

  2. LLORIS–WALKER–PEPE–VER–FABIO CONTRAO—-SANDRO–PAULINHO–PJANIC—HULK–DI MARIA–SOLDADO—-SUB–FRIEDEL–DAWSON–NAUGHTON–HOLTBY–DEMBLELE–CHANDLI–JAKSON MARTINEZ POSSIBLE OR ?

    • Spurs do not, nor will they ever, own Pepe or Hulk! Di Maria and Coentrao are only slight possibilities! Get your head out of the clouds!
