A second string Spurs XI completed a comfortable 5-0 win over non-league Cambridge City last night and while this may not have held too much interest from a first team point of view, there were impressive performances from two of last season’s fringe players.

Iago Falque scored twice either side of half time and after making his debut in Spurs colours last season, the midfielder would be hoping to impress the coaching staff and make something of a breakthrough in 2013-14. Falque was highly thought of during a loan spell at Almeira during the second half of 2012-13 but at 23 and with even more competition for places at White Hart Lane, the most he may have achieved is another guaranteed loan deal for the new campaign.

Cristian Ceballos completed the scoring with a curling effort late on and at 20, he may just have a little more time on his side than his compatriot – certainly as far as a Spurs career is concerned. Cristian has featured a little more in pre-season and it would be no surprise to see him get a first team outing – either in the Europa League or in the Capital One Cup.

Meanwhile, Roberto Soldado is the Spaniard grabbing all the headlines at White Hart Lane but what does 2013-14 hold for his talented countrymen?
