Tottenham winger Andros Townsend has dominated the headlines over the course of the weekend after his man of the match display kept England’s World Cup hopes on track. The 22 year old became the seventh Spurs player to find the net on his full England debut and after the game, his international and club teammate Kyle Walker underlined Townsend’s strengths.

“He is a nightmare,” Walker said.

“He is really confident and you could see that against Montenegro.

“He just wants to get at players. As a defender you don’t want a right winger who is left-footed running at you, it’s dreadful, and he is confident to go either side.”

According to the press Andros’ display, together with his club performances are set to earn him a new deal at Tottenham which will land a pay hike from around £6,000 to £15,000 a week.

We’ve discussed Andros Townsend at great length here and whether or not he should make way in the starting XI. Friday’s performance is likely to delay any change in the side and whatever your opinion on that subject, the winger’s display lit up the game from a Spurs fan’s perspective.
