12 months ago, Benoit Assou-Ekotto was injured and Danny Rose out on loan at Sunderland. Now the position has been reversed with Danny on the sidelines and BAE over at QPR yet still we have issues at left back.
Yesterday at Villa we looked more comfortable on that side, even though we were tested in the middle and Hugo’s early kicking put us under a little more pressure. With Jan out on the left, it also gives AVB a chance to give the new signing Vlad Chiriches game time, while Younes Kaboul waits patiently in the background.
Clearly the right footed Kyle Naughton wasn’t working in that position so has Andre found our best defensive formation – until January at least?
Don’t really want Jan out of the center tbh. He’s our best CB, and thats where we should play him.
Agree with Joe, Jan belongs in the centre. I’ve read that Vlad can play on the left, that might something to trial in a cup game in the absence of Rose/a new left back. As for Kyle N, we may as well drop Chadli or someone who offers more going forward, they’re not going to be any worse than Naughton defensively are they?!
would rather play graham norton naughton must be the worst full back we have had since john gorman the bloke just ball watches and gets caught out of position all the time flog him if you can find a buyer.
Without a shadow of doubt it’s our most solid back line so far this year. The only issue is that jan may not overlap as much as rose . Vlad looked brilliant at cb so the question is really who’s more effective : rose at lb or vlad at cb ?
Walker, Kaboul, Jan, Rose for me when all fit with Vlad pushing hard as i believe he is two footed and can play any position across the back four.
Dawson scares me, i just dont feel confiodent with him and i’m sick to the back teeth with the 60 yard diagionals for opposition throw ins.

Spot on dawson scares me as well far too slow as shown against a very average west ham team 2 weeks ago him and naughton should be nowhere near the 1st team.
To the people saying about Vlad at LB he has as far as I know never played there, though he has played at RB from time to time.
He’s a very right footed player though so would give the same width problems as Naughton on the left. Even yesterday all his passes were right footed, even the short ones to Verts he had to get on his right foot.
No rumblings about him wanting to leave just yet, but we need to be consistent this year if he is to stay.
