The club announced on Monday that defender Kyle Walker had signed a new contract extension taking him up to 2019. The defender sparks a mixed reaction among the fans but clearly Spurs believe in him and that is reflected in this new deal.
As for Walker himself, the 23 year old is delighted with his new arrangement.
It’s fantastic,” he told the club’s official website. “When I first signed here at the age of 18, I always
wanted to make it a long stay.”
“The lads are fantastic as well as the manager and everyone surrounding the club – it just makes it a lot easier when they do offer you a contract to sign it.”
Walker went on to acknowledge the club’s main target this season and vowed to help secure Champions League football for 2014-15.
“I’m very thankful to the chairman for giving me an extension on the contract and hopefully I can repay him by putting the performances in on the pitch and getting that top four spot.”
So Walker looks set to remain unchallenged as Tottenham’s right back for many seasons to come. That’s bad news for Adam Smith but can Kyle remain consistent enough to justify his place?
