Andros Townsend has taken his fair share of the headlines once again in an impressive but ultimately unproductive evening with England against Germany last night. The winger’s display drew plenty of praise but is the lack of an end product going to raise questions about his usefulness at both international and club level?
After that game, former Spur Jamie Redknapp said he felt Andros’ place at the world cup could be affected by his club form.
“Wembley has a new darling and Andros Townsend gets bums off seats with his direct running and pace,” Redknapp is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
“One possible problem ahead, I fear, can he keep his place in the Spurs team, especially if results continue to go against them?
“Manager Andre Villas-Boas will feel the pressure to play £30m Erik Lamela instead.”
Many would claim it’s a case of Lamela deserving his place ahead of Townsend as the club prepares to take on Manchester City on Sunday. Which of those players would you start with?
