Andros Townsend has taken his fair share of the headlines once again in an impressive but ultimately unproductive evening with England against Germany last night. The winger’s display drew plenty of praise but is the lack of an end product going to raise questions about his usefulness at both international and club level?

After that game, former Spur Jamie Redknapp said he felt Andros’ place at the world cup could be affected by his club form.

“Wembley has a new darling and Andros Townsend gets bums off seats with his direct running and pace,” Redknapp is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.

“One possible problem ahead, I fear, can he keep his place in the Spurs team, especially if results continue to go against them?

“Manager Andre Villas-Boas will feel the pressure to play £30m Erik Lamela instead.”

Many would claim it’s a case of Lamela deserving his place ahead of Townsend as the club prepares to take on Manchester City on Sunday. Which of those players would you start with?

  1. Yes, he’s contributed nothing but a mis-hit cross and winning a penalty to our league campaign this season. The lad is a grafter, but he’s frightfully overrated by the media, England, and even our own fans.

  2. He’s more exciting than productive… he has the mentality top learn though and could become a better player… but at he’s not that young anymore and how long do we wait when you have Lamela, younger and better, waiting.

  3. Unproductive and over-rated. If he was a non-Englishman shooting 46 times/scoring only one goal and delivering 50 crosses/no assists, Spurs fans everywhere would be screaming for his head.

  4. It never ceases to amaze me the amount of shit written by would be journalists and the dumb comments by so called Spurs fans. I remember a certain Welshman who has since risen to become the Worlds most expensive player to date and was so lovely regarded when he was Townsends age that a certain Mr Redknap wanted him out of the club either perminantly or on loan. Townsend has only just broken into the first team at Spurs and the England squad yet he’s being crucified. WTF is wrong with you dickheads. The boy should be encouraged in order to progress not fucking hammered.
