Tim Sherwood returned from St Marys with his first win as Tottenham’s interim manager and would have doubtless boosted his CV at the same time. The game itself was decided by two Emmanuel Adebayor goals but Sherwood wasn’t happy at half time when the teams went in level.

The second half performance pleased me most,” said Tim on the club’s official website. “I thought we were excellent.

“The first half wasn’t great, we kept turning the ball over. That was frustrating because I know we’re better than that. It played into their hands because they put the press on and we kept giving the ball away. In the second half we got in behind that press and it opened up for us time and time again.”

The boss stuck with his 4-4-2 formation in a game where many thought he would go back on the defensive.

“I like attackers to attack, defenders to defend and midfielders to do a bit of both. In the second half, we did that perfectly,” he explained.

The win leaves us in seventh in the table – four points away from Everton in fourth – and next up is West Brom at home on Boxing Day.
