Simon Dawkins completed five years at Spurs but a fair proportion of the club’s fans would never have heard of him prior to his permanent move to Derby County at the weekend. Aside from a few friendly outings, the player didn’t feature in the first team and at the age of 26, it was clear that we couldn’t keep loaning him out.

Prior to the deal being sealed, Dawkins was just pleased to be playing again,

“Football is a fun game,” Dawkins said. “We are all enjoying it right now. We are winning and we will try to keep that going. You just have to take every day as it comes.”

A serious knee injury sidelined the player for over two years and certainly hampered any chance he had of making an impact at Tottenham. A brief loan spell at Villa last season underlined that he probably needed to drop down to the Championship but we could finally see Simon Dawkins at White Hart Lane as a Derby player next season – if they keep up their current form. We wish him well.
