Earlier in the month, it looked as if Tom Carroll might be returning to White Hart Lane with QPR boss Harry Redknapp urging Tim Sherwood to make his mind up over the current loan deal. Now however, as the transfer window draws to a close, it looks as if Tom is staying at Loftus Road and the England Under 21 international is relishing the promotion battle ahead.

“It’s going well at the moment,” said Tom on the club’s official website.

“The club is determined to gain promotion. We had a tricky run over Christmas and New Year, but we’ve picked up since then and we’re right up there again.”

When the midfielder was at Derby in 2012, a section of Rams fans picked up on his slight frame and suggested he needed to boost his physicality – a point that Carroll touched on in this interview.

“Physically it’s a test and something I’ve not been used to. I’ve done well and competed fine. Hopefully I will have improved on that front,” he added.

“People might not think I’ve got that side to my game but I’ve showed I can do that.”

While we’d all love to see Tom as a first choice for Spurs next season, we don’t know how realistic that really is but if he has improved the physical side of his game, that may well be one more barrier out of his way.
