With Jan Vertonghen and Vlad Chiriches rotating their spells on the physio’s table, Tim Sherwood has been able to avoid making a difficult decision between the two. Both favour the left side of central defence and with no obvious alternative, it was a relief that the Belgian returned to action just as Vlad dropped out with a back injury.

It had been hoped that the Romanian would be back before too long but according to a report in the Daily Mirror, a scan has revealed a more serious issue and that Chiriches could be out of action for a further six weeks.

Vlad Chiriches is similar to Vertonghen in his calmness on the ball and while this absence is an undoubted blow, how does Tim Sherwood get both men into the side when they are fully fit?
