If, as expected, Brad Friedel decides to finally hang up his gloves at the end of the season, there will be a vacancy as Tottenham’s second choice goalkeeper. Maybe that’s why Heurelho Gomes is hanging around the club but after another season of inactivity, the Brazilian is set to be loaned to Leeds for the remainder of the campaign.

The 33 year old was loaned out to Hoffenheim at around the same time last year and did much to keep the side in the Bundesliga before injury curtailed his spell. Now, with Leeds retaining faint hopes of a play off place, it seems that Brian McDermott’s first job under the new owners is to find a temporary stopper.

Depending on which report you read, Leeds are either going for Gomes or Stoke’s Jack Butland but will either of them play? Paddy Kenny is an ever present in the Elland Road set up which suggests that the owners, rather than Brian McDermott, have been watching him play.

Gomes to Leeds could be a sensible move at this stage but contrary to some reports it’s far from a done deal.
