The 2013-14 season began with an injury for Jan Vertonghen and it’s continued in a similarly frustrating manner with the Belgian spending much of the campaign on the sidelines. In addition, the central defender had been switched to his unflavoured position of left back to cover for a prolonged absence of Danny Rose.

However, Jan returned to the side last month to play for the first time under Tim Sherwood and with a few games under his belt, he believes that he is back to his best.

“I feel good where I am now and hopefully I’ll keep going,” Vertonghen said on the club’s official website.

“I did everything to come back as quickly as possible. You have to be careful not to come back too early and I feel better and better, I thought I had a good game against Everton and that I’m getting back to my best level.”

It’s been an up and down season for the Belgian international but Spurs look a better side when Jan Vertonghen is in the team. Let’s hope he can stay away from the physio’s bench for the remainder of the campaign.

  1. If Jan Vertonghen is back to his best form, it’s probably because he’s playing in his preferred position in the heart of the defence where he reads the game so well and it’s no coincidence that central defence looks so much better with the return of Kaboom as well.
