There was a huge sense of relief around White Hart Lane on Sunday as Roberto Soldado scored Tottenham’s only goal in the 1-0 win over Cardiff. The Spaniard had further chances and while one strike won’t be enough to silence the doubters, the player declared he was ‘ecstatic’ after ending the drought.

I’m feeling really, really good and I’m really happy that we got the three points – ecstatic actually,” Soldado said on the club’s official website.

“For the goal, I saw Ade had made the space and I thought if I can go into the gap in between the defenders I can open it up. I then obviously used my foot just to flick it around the keeper.”

Stats can be turned around and overall, Roberto’s record currently stands at a fairly respectable 11 in 29 games for his new club. However, yesterday’s goal was his first league strike in open play at White Hart Lane and only his second of the season.

Elsewhere, Emmanuel Adebayor praised his strike partner’s work ethic and backed him to come good while Tim Sherwood set the Spaniard a target of 20 goals for the campaign.

Both men clearly feel that Roberto Soldado can become a potent force but do you believe he can turn it around and form a deadly partnership with Ade up front?

  1. Pleased he scored, yes he cost a lot but thats 12goals so far in all competitions. He is quality and will give more given time. Lets put our faith in him and Lamela, eriksen when their back. These are the players that can push us into the top four this year or next and help us beat the big teams.

  2. Pleased for soldado but it is difficult to accept a season to settle when you are an experienced international. Hope he goes on a run now because if Ade goes off the boil we are in trouble. Lamela could giveus ten good performances lke the player he was in italy.
Very concerned about lack of goals and the poor performance of Dawson at centre back he is very exposed when faced with pace. We could lose Lloris and Vertongen if we dont get CPL place and i dont think we will achieve that target.
A poor end to the season will see more turmoil and guess what a new manager and goodbye to Soldado Lamela Lloris Vertongen and maybe even Sandro. Sorry but we are just so far away from liverpool Rsenal city and chelsea after a sumer that promised so much.Same old Spurs.
