Harry Kane was left on the bench on Monday as England’s Under 21 squad tackled their Welsh counterparts in the Toulon Tournament and his night ended in disappointment as an ankle injury put paid to his participation in the competition.

Harry came on for Tom Ince in the 79th minute of a game where England won by three goals to one but he limped off just five minutes later.

“It’s a real shame because Harry has been extremely patient for his chance and I was looking forward giving him some of the prestigious games in Toulon,” said England’s coach Gareth Southgate.

“He’s warranted that opportunity and has had a super finish to the season with Tottenham so it’s disappointing for us and for him.”

As yet there is no news on the extent of the problem but if you are going to pick up an injury, this isn’t the worst time to do it. Hopefully the striker will be fit enough to join up with Tottenham’s pre-season programme.

  1. Bad news for Harry he looked half decent at the end of the season and I am happy for him to be in our squad, at least for a full season under Pochentinio.
