If Mauricio Pochettino does take over the reins at Spurs, the Daily Mail feels that they have identified his first transfer target. With current Southampton players Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana expected to head to destinations other than White Hart Lane, the Mail claim that the Argentinian coach will look overseas with a view to making Michy Batshuayi his first signing for his new club.

Batshuayi is a 20 year old striker, currently playing for Standard Liege and in 90 league games for his club, he has scored 37 times. The forward has also been capped 12 times at Under 21 level by his country, scoring on five occasions.

There have been predictable comparisons with Christian Benteke and Romelu Lukaku and it’s being reported that Spurs could be at the front of the queue to meet a £8m release clause in the player’s contract. Batshuayi hasn’t quite reached the level of his compatriots and despite Benteke’s injury, he was overlooked by Marc Wilmots for a place in Belgium’s world cup squad. However, if he can develop and be as productive as a Lukaku or a Benteke, £8m may well be worth a punt.
