Rumours have been flying around all week linking Spurs with a summer bid for Inter Milan’s Argentinian midfielder Ricardo Alvarez. The 26 year old has been in Italy since 2011 and his performances at the San Siro have helped him earn seven full caps for the Argentine national side.

Alvarez has been widely compared to Christian Eriksen as the same type of creative midfielder. It’s said that he would provide competition for the Dane but the Inter man is a versatile player who can play almost anywhere across the central line. Alvarez has also appeared as a striker on occasions and this would give Mauricio Pochettino another option.

The player has been included in Argentina’s World Cup squad for Brazil but judging by some of the remaining names in the 23, it’s likely that we’ll only see him in restricted, substitute roles as the tournament progresses.

Reports seem to agree that £8m is the fee that Inter will require for the player but there are differing opinions about who could be heading the other way. Currently, both Sandro and Erik Lamela have been mentioned as part of any deal.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to follow Argentina in the next few weeks to see if Ricardo Alvarez does get any game time at the World Cup.
