19 year old Tottenham striker Shaquile Coulthirst has joined Southend United on a season long loan as he continues to develop his footballing education in the lower leagues. The centre forward spent the end of the previous campaign with Torquay United and although he was unable to keep the Gulls in the football league, he did manage to find the net twice in five matches.

The teenager spoke to Southend’s official website about the move.

“I’m really pleased to have joined on a season-long loan, it gives me the chance to really make an impression,” Shaquile said.

“I had a couple of loan spells last season and know what this division is all about, so I can’t wait to start at Accrington Stanley on Saturday.”

Southend are also in league two but with a full season ahead of him, Coulthirst should enjoy a more productive season away from White Hart Lane. We will monitor his progress with great interest in the months that lie ahead.

  1. For heaven’s sake, the lad’s only 19. Of course he’s not good enough for our first team at present, but give him a chance and let’s see how he develops. Remember, there were plenty who said that a young Gareth Bale wasn’t good enough to play for Spurs!
