With just over 5 weeks to go until the new transfer window opens, we can expect a host of rumours linking Spurs with new striker arrivals and old – deadwood – exits between now and the end of the year. In fact, it’s a little surprising that we aren’t seeing more of these stories but today has thrown us an interesting link to one of Inter’s rising stars.

Mauro Icardi is an Argentinian international forward who has a more than healthy record with Inter of 16 goals in 33 matches. Prior to that he was a little more subdued with 11 in 33 for previous club Sampdoria but clearly this is an improving player who, at 21, is attracting attention outside of Italy.

The story also claims that Chelsea are monitoring the situation so if there is truth in the report then that could end any Tottenham interest. Overall, it looks like a long shot at best but we’ll certainly be linked with worse strikers than Mauro Icardi between now and the end of the January transfer window.
