Tottenham Hotspur v Everton - Premier LeagueWhile it’s always a relief to see Roberto Soldado hit the back of the net at any stage and in any competition, there was a more telling moment later on when Danny Rose set the Spaniard up with an opportunity to double his tally on the night.

Roberto’s calm finish completed the rout and sealed a 4-0 win over Newcastle that sees the club with a glorious chance to progress to Wembley and any Soldado goal gives us hope that a return to form is in prospect. However, had our once record signing been in any sort of form, a first time finish would have been applied to Rose’s low cross; as it was, a poor first touch saw the opportunity come to nothing.

It points to a lack of confidence that is much harder to come back from than a temporary dip in form and it wasn’t a good sign for anyone hoping that the likeable Spaniard has turned a corner.
